Modern Bargello Quilt

The snow has all melted and we’ve got lovely mild sunny weather now, hard to believe this was only a couple of weeks ago! I was waiting for the nice weather to take some quilt photo’s but when I saw all the snow in the garden I thought it would look pretty.

This is the Modern Bargello Quilt which was my first project when lockdown started last March. I was determined to get busy and make quilts so that when I could work again I’d be super organised and ready with plenty of new projects. Well it sort of went to plan, I did make quite a few things but not as many as I’d hoped and I’m still finishing the notes and instructions.

I wanted to use up some of my fabrics, I had lot’s of bits left over from previous quilts, and I couldn’t get to the shops. I tend not to order fabrics on line, I like to see them together first and find that’s all part of the enjoyment in the making experience. Good to support your favourite quilt shops too.

I drew out the picture of how I wanted it to be and planned on paper the fabric requirements. I fancied a nice bright and cheerful quilt, what better than red, orange and yellow. Surprised at how much of these colours I had in my stash. Once drawn out it was quite easy to cut and sew and it was whipping along at a pace. So pleased with how it turned out. I wasn’t sure how I wanted to quilt it so I left it for a while to think. Luckily the first lockdown was lifted a little and I was able to send it out to be long arm quilted, loved the flame design and it was finished in a day. Took me a little while to get that binding on as I was then working on the next project but it’s done now with a nice machined flange binding in two colours. Workshops for this quilt will start when we are able to meet up again – watch this space as they say.
